Classic Yam Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

1 lb yam, peeled and grated
1 cup rice flour
1 cup water
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp five-spice powder
1/4 cup dried shrimp, soaked and chopped
2 Chinese sausages, diced
2 shallots, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp oil

Steps:

Heat oil in a pan and sauté shallots and garlic until fragrant.
Add dried shrimp and Chinese sausages, cook until fragrant.
Add grated yam and stir well.
In a separate bowl, mix rice flour, water, salt, and five-spice powder. Pour mixture into the pan with the yam and stir well.
Transfer mixture to a greased pan and steam for 45 minutes or until set.
Let cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Yam Cake with Crispy Bacon Topping

Ingredients:

1 lb yam, peeled and diced
1 cup glutinous rice flour
1 cup water
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white pepper
4 slices bacon, cooked until crispy
2 green onions, chopped
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced

Steps:

Steam diced yam until soft, then mash with a fork.
In a bowl, mix mashed yam, glutinous rice flour, water, salt, and white pepper until well combined.
Transfer mixture to a greased pan and steam for 30 minutes or until set.
Heat oyster sauce in a pan and sauté garlic until fragrant.
Top steamed yam cake with crispy bacon, green onions, and oyster sauce mixture.
Slice and serve hot.
